Last month, we asked our members for their feedback on our Volkswagen Passat Estate – and whether it should stay in the car club family, or be replaced with a smaller, greener car.

We received some really valuable insight from our members, who told us that they wished us to keep the car in the fleet, with 75% of respondents saying they used the car because of its size.

So, we’re pleased to announce it will remain with us for the foreseeable future!

We’d like to thank everyone who took time to complete our survey.

Here’s a glimpse at some of the responses we received:

“One of the main reasons I joined was the allure of the Passat, the club needs a large estate car with bike capacity”

“It is a beautiful piece of engineering, good for longer journeys”

“I’m likely to be using it in the near future for its boot space”

“The Passat is presently the best car in the Birmingham fleet.”

“It’s a great car, a shame it's diesel. My family love it.”

“It might be more ecologically friendly to keep the existing Passat due to the 'carbon cost' in the transport and delivery of a new vehicle. Even if the fuel economy of a replacement car is greater than the VW, it can take tens of thousands of miles for the impact of manufacture to be outweighed. The Bluemotion engine is not a unit implicated in the current scandal, though market values of VWs are down across the board. Therefore, it may not be economically wise to sell the Passat at this time.”

The Passat Estate is kept at Cotteridge Park, close to the 11 bus route and about 10 minutes walk from Bournville train station. More details here
